This country mouse is back in his happy place. After a decade spent tethered to New York City while working in Gourmet magazine’s test kitchen, the author of our very first edition has replanted himself in his home state of Pennsylvania and opened a cooking school.
There, he and fellow Gourmet alum Shelley Wiseman turned a 19th-century barn into a gorgeous kitchen and event space where Knauer teaches hands-on cooking classes that range from cheesemaking to knife skills (with an emphasis on seasonal produce) and hosts dinners with visiting chefs and instructors (stay tuned for a Short Stack-themed class later this year).
If you can't visit Ian's school in person, check out his excellent cookbook, The Farm, and his PBS series of the same name.
